U.S. engineering company, Edge Innovations, has created a life-like dolphin that could replace animals in captivity.
The remote-control dolphin was made to look extremely like those that perform acrobatics at theme parks for crowds.
The company, which has an animatronic and special effects division in California, designed the dolphin, worth between $3 and $5 million.
Its 250-kg, the 2.5-metre animatronic dolphin has skin made from medical-grade silicone, adding to its life-like appearance.
These animatronics could be used to entertain crowds instead of the wild animals held and trained in captivity.

This technology will allow people to swim with robotic dolphins, great white sharks, and even reptiles that once filled Jurassic-era seas.
Photo credit: ReutersSpeaking about the new technology, Edge Innovations founder and CEO Walt Conti said; "There are like 3,000 dolphins currently in captivity being used to generate several billions of dollars just for dolphin experiences.
"And so there’s obviously an appetite to love and learn about dolphins.
"And so we want to use that appetite and offer kind of different ways to fall in love with the dolphin."
Around 20 European countries have already banned or limited the presence of wild animals in circuses.

Roger Holzberg, creative director for Edge’s animatronic program, said; "The idea of this pilot is really to create a kind of 'Sesame Street' underwater."
"Those characters taught a generation how to feel about different kinds of aspects of humankind in ways that had never been imagined before.
"For those of us that care about marine animal preservation, this is a dream come true."
