Candace Parker praises the greatness of Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest
Candace Parker is arguably one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
She won two National Championships while at Tennessee, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was the No.1 overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, is a two-time WNBA MVP, five-time WNBA All-Star, and won a WNBA Championship with the Sparks in 2016.
Her resume is stacked.
But even as great as she is, she respects the talent around her.
Up north on the west coast sits the 2020 WNBA Champions, the Seattle Storm.
Led by the two-headed monster of Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart, the Storm is a force.
On the latest episode of DangerTalk with Russell Wilson, Parker was asked about the duo.

"Breanna Stewart is one of my favorite people," Parker told host, and Seattle Seahawks Quarterback, Russell Wilson. "It's been fun to watch the way that she plays the game of basketball. It's so smooth. Honestly, a player at her size being able to do the things that she does, being able to step outside and hit the three, put the ball on the floor and attack the rim..."
Stewart was a force for Seattle, averaging 25.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in the Storm's championship playoff run.
The real story of the Storm's run, however, was the vintage performances from Sue Bird.
Bird, who turns 40 later this month, showed that she has plenty of gas left in the tank.
The future Hall of Famer averaged 9.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, and a playoff carrer-best 9.2 assists per game during the playoff run.
The performance doesn't really surprise Parker.
"I was fortunate enough to play with her overseas as well as with USA Basketball. Her knowledge of the game of basketball. That's what I would say that I enjoy," said Parker when asked what she admires most about Bird. "Just to have conversations with her about the game of basketball and what she sees, you know, she's two and three plays ahead."
There is no doubt that Bird is one of the greats, and luckily for WNBA fans it doesn't sound like she has plans to hang up the sneakers anytime soon.
Parker may praise the Seattle duo now, but we'll see how much fun she is having when the duo runs it back in 2021.
