Travis O. Brave Bird, Jr. “Ole Aupi,” 43, of Allen, S.D., passed away August 2, 2020, in Sioux Falls.
Travis O. Brave Bird, Jr. was born on September 29, 1976, in Pine Ridge, to Travis Brave Bird, Sr. and Henrietta Plenty Arrows. Travis made his journey to the Spirit World on August 2, 2020, in Sioux Falls.
Travis is survived by his wife, Clovia Around Him; sons, Trevor Brave Bird, Teal Brave Bird, and Chavez Brave Bird; daughters, Alyssa Brave Bird, Terrelle Brave Bird, and Alyssa Whirlwind Horse; grandmother, Edna Plenty Arrows; father, Travis Brave Bird, Sr.; sister-in-law, Amaris (Jude) Around Him; brother-in-laws, John (Deana) Around Him, Milton Around Him, and Samuel Around Him; hunka mother, Charlene May; six hunka children; five sisters; seven brothers; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and cousins.
Travis was preceded in death by his mother, Henrietta Plenty Arrows; brothers, Raymond Brave Bird, Gilbert Brave Bird, and Jesse Vasquez; sister, Tracy Brave Bird; father-in-law, John Around Him; mother-in-law, Olinda Thunder Hawk; niece, Annisa Around Him; uncles, Mick and Ben Plenty Arrows, Clover Curry, and Charles Janis; grandmother, Vera Leading Fighter; grandfather, Cleveland Brave Bird; and hunka mother, Tess LeBeaux; and stepfather, Laurence Lone Elk.
A two night wake service will be held with the first night starting at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 13, at the Around Him Residence located seven miles South of Kyle and the second night starting at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 14, at the Edna Plenty Arrows Residence in Yellow Bear.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 15, at the Edna Plenty Arrows Residence in Yellow Bear, with Pastor Pedro Sharpfish and Pastor Tim Wardell officiating, and Jerome LeBeaux and Jaylin Garnette performing the traditional Lakota services.
Burial services will be held at the Plenty Arrows Family Cemetery in Yellow Bear.
