Knee sidelines Seattle Storm's Sue Bird against Indiana Fever - ESPN

Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird missed the Storm's 90-84 loss to the Indiana Fever on Thursday because of left knee issues.

The loss snapped the Storm's nine-game winning streak, bringing their record to 11-2.

Bird, 39, missed five games earlier this season in the WNBA's bubble in Bradenton, Florida, because of a bone bruise in that knee. But she had returned to play the past four games for the league-leading Storm, averaging 21.8 minutes in those games.

"I think it just flared up a little bit with her bone bruise," Seattle coach Gary Kloppenburg said. "I don't think it's anything serious, but we just felt like the best thing to do was to rest her. It's kind of a day-by-day situation."

Bird, who is in her 17th WNBA season, most recently played in Tuesday's victory over the New York Liberty, getting 10 points and seven assists.

The Storm got a big game Thursday from guard Jewell Loyd, who had a career-high 35 points. Breanna Stewart had 18 points for Seattle, but she was 5-of-18 from the floor.

"We're gonna get everybody's best shot; they all want to beat us," Kloppenburg said. "I thought we were not really wired together defensively, and we were a little bit out of sync offensively.

"We've been playing well with Sue in there, and all of a sudden she's not in and it kind of changes your chemistry. Not an excuse; I thought they played really well. Everybody's really good, and you can't just show up."

Kennedy Burke had a career-high 23 points for Indiana.
