Point guard Sue Bird, who has missed the past five games for the Seattle Storm, will make her return for Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Dream in Bradenton, Florida. She had been dealing with a bone bruise in her left knee.
According to Storm coach Gary Kloppenburg, Bird is a "full go" for the game without any minutes restrictions after she went through the team's practice Tuesday and looked good. The Storm will monitor Bird's conditioning after an absence of nearly two weeks.
Bird was injured July 28 in Seattle's victory over the Minnesota Lynx, but she thought she could play through it. She played about 20 minutes in Seattle's loss to the Washington Mystics on July 30. It's the only loss this season for the league-leading Storm (7-1).
After an MRI, Bird opted to sit out to let her knee heal, and the Storm continued to play well, winning the five games for which she was sidelined. Jordin Canada has handled most of the point guard duties for Seattle, as she did last year, when Bird was out all season after knee surgery.
Bird, 39, is playing in her 17th WNBA season. The Storm-Dream matchup will be streamed live on Twitter at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday.
