On Thursday, the WNBA released the results of its General Manager Survey, which polled the league’s 12 decision makers on their thoughts and predictions for the upcoming year.
In honor of the WNBA’s 25th season, each general manager picked their own “Mount Rushmore” for the league. There were no unanimous selections, though Diana Taurasi received eight votes, tied with Cynthia Cooper behind only Lauren Jackson (10 votes). Sue Bird and Maya Moore both receive six votes apiece alongside Lisa Leslie.
Breanna Stewart was tabbed as the favorite to win the league’s MVP award after guiding the Seattle Storm to WNBA championship last year, where she was named finals MVP. The Storm aren’t favorites to go back-to-back, though. Seven of the 12 GMs picked the Las Vegas Aces to win it all while the Chicago Sky and Washington Mystics each earned two votes apiece.
The GMs are also expecting a big season out of Tina Charles in her first year with the Mystics as she tied with Candace Parker as “the player with the greatest hunger to win a championship.” Charles also finished second behind reigning MVP A’ja Wilson as the player with the best post moves.
Taurasi earned top shooting guard honors and was picked as the player who GMs would want to take a shot with the game on the line with seven votes in each category.
Bird also came out on top twice. All but two voters think she’ll make the best head coach among active players while seven GMs believe she has the highest basketball IQ in the league.
Finally, Napheesa Collier fittingly came in second in the category of the league’s most underrated player with two votes.
The new season kicks off on Friday, May 14.
