‘Tiger King’ Joe Exotic doesn’t get a pardon from Donald Trump pardon, remains in captivity - PennLive

Lawyers for “Tiger King” Joe Exotic were so confident that he would be pardoned by President Donald Trump that they had a limousine on standby.

But it was all for naught as Trump granted clemency to 143 people, and the list did not include the star of the Netflix documentary series.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, Exotic, 57, whose real name is Joe Maldonado-Passage, became a breakout star thanks to the popularity of the eight-part series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.”

The show documented Exotic’s business — an Oklahoma zoo where he would keep and show tigers and exotic animals — among other operations owned by fellow tiger enthusiasts, including Carole Baskin of Big Cat Sanctuary in Tampa, Florida.

For a short while, people seemed to be somewhat enchanted by Exotic. Months later, he was even a trending costume for Halloween 2020.

Yet as people binge-watched the series, Maldonado-Passage was in federal prison, convicted of targeting Baskin in a murder-for-hire plot and violating federal wildlife laws. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison.

In the show, Exotic accuses Baskin of killing her former husband, Don Lewis.

In addition to a Ram truck stretch limo, which was apparently scheduled to take Exotic to get a McRib at McDonald’s, Oklahoma City’s KOCO News reported that the “Tiger King” subject’s legal team had hair, makeup and wardrobe ready for his potential release from prison in Fort Worth, Texas.

Celebrities who did benefit from Trump’s clemency on the eve of Joe Biden’s inauguration include rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, who were convicted on weapons charges in Florida, the Associated Press reports. Lil Wayne was pardoned and Kodak Black was granted a commutation.

Social media received the news of Exotic’s failure to be granted a pardon by posting “Tiger King” GIFs, references and limo jokes.
