Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said 30 Ukrainian prisoners of war were released on Thursday.
The 30 detainees include 17 soldiers, five officers, and eight civilians, she said. Vereshchuk didn’t disclose the number of prisoners of war Ukraine released to Russia. This was the fourth such exchange.
RUSSIAN TROOPS DEPORTED 500,000 UKRAINIANS, USED RED CROSS EMBLEM
Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed a prisoner swap, offering to exchange a Ukrainian oligarch who is a close friend of Vladimir Putin, Viktor Medvedchuk, for Ukrainians held captive by Russian forces, though it’s unknown if he was a part of this exchange.
Medvedchuk made massive amounts of money from Russian oil interests and his proximity to Putin, who is his youngest daughter's godfather. He was charged with treason in May 2021 after getting accused of selling military secrets to Moscow and exploiting the natural resources of Crimea. He denied the allegations and was placed under house arrest but fled during the first days of the Putin-ordered invasion of Ukraine.
Zelensky, in his video message, warned Ukrainian forces would capture more Russian soldiers.
"We will establish the full truth about all these savages. No matter how much time and effort it takes, we will find them all. Let Medvedchuk be an example for you,” he said.
The Kremlin was not interested in such a deal, Putin's top spokesman said in response to Zelensky's offer.

“Medvedchuk is not a Russian citizen. He has nothing to do with the special military operation. We don’t know if he wants anything to do with it at all," Dmitry Peskov said.
Russia’s former president and deputy chairman of its security council, Dmitry Medvedev, threatened retaliation.
“Those freaks who call themselves the Ukrainian authorities say that they want to beat testimony out of Viktor Medvedchuk ‘quickly and fairly’, convict him, and then exchange him for prisoners,” Medvedev said. “These people should watch out and lock the doors well at night to make sure they do not become the people who are going to be exchanged themselves.”
