Nick, a tri-colored border collie, had been Mission Point Resort's bird-chasing expert for years.
MACKINAC ISLAND, MI - Sometimes a dog makes such an impact on a family that once they are gone, it’s hard to understand how much that loss affects people. But in the case of Nick, Mackinac Island’s celebrity bird-chasing dog who worked at Mission Point Resort, his family encompassed not only all the staff who loved him, but the thousands of guests each year who greeted him during their stays at the resort.
Kids who spied him sitting next to the main lobby desk of his mom, Concierge Pat Driscoll, would make a beeline over to say hi or give him a little hug. Out on his daily walks around Mission Point, he’d be greeted frequently by guests both small and tall - some of whom were walking their own dogs at the pet-friendly resort. And then there were his fans who got to see his signature moves on the resort’s waterfront Great Lawn, where it was his regular job to chase away any geese, ducks or other birds who might dare to congregate there.
