Bird feeding resumes in Indiana - ABC 57 News

jawawuts.blogspot.com

The DNR announced yesterday that Hoosiers can resume feeding birds.

Earlier this summer the DNR recommended a statewide hiatus on bird feeding to help slow the spread of undetermined illnesses killing birds statewide.

Biologists have identified over 750 cases of diseases throughout 76 counties.

The sick or diseased birds were showing symptoms such as: crusty eyes, discharge from their eyes, and neurological problems.

By Hoosiers pausing on feeding birds the DNR was able to tract the disease, and detect regional differences to provide updated feeding recommendations.

Indiana residents have been given permission to resume putting bird feeders outside if they wish to do so and haven’t seen any dead or sick birds.
