The Seattle Storm (17-7) snapped a two-game losing streak Friday with a 99-83 win over the New York Liberty (11-13) thanks to the team’s dynamic trio of Jewell Loyd, Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird.
Weeks after winning a fourth gold medal, Sue Bird passed 6,500 career WNBA points, becoming the sixth player in league history to do so. She crossed the threshold with a three-pointer to open the second half.
Bird and Stewart finished with a combined 29 points in their first game back after two contests of rest.
“Things were a little bit more open with them on the floor,” said Loyd who had to carry the Storm offensively while her All-Star teammates rested.
Loyd hit seven three-pointers en route to 29 points, helping lead Seattle to another victory.
With the game tied at 59-59 with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter, the Storm outscored the Liberty 17-4 to close out the period and didn’t look back.
Oregon Ducks legend Sabrina Ionescu scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished three assists. She reached double-figures for the 12th time on the season.
The Storm continues its road trip on Sunday, August 22, in Washington D.C. against the Mystics with tip-off at 12:00 p.m. PST.
