Two of the WNBA’s biggest stars took the floor with some other names in mind on Saturday.
The Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm faced off with stars Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird wearing shoes with the names of dozens of police brutality victims.

Bird also wore a shirt reading “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor” before the game. None of the three police officers who shot Taylor in her bed during a raid at her apartment have been arrested in the months since her killing, and only one has been fired.

The Storm later came out on top 74-68, though Bird remained out with a sore knee. Taurasi posted 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Saturday’s shoe choice was the latest example of the WNBA’s activism against racial injustice since resuming play. Unlike the NBA, the WNBA has even allowed players to wear the names of police brutality victims on their jerseys.
However, several NBA players have done what they can to raise awareness for victims of police brutality, including Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George, who wore a similar shirt to Bird on Saturday.
