The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued a 75-year-old man who was allegedly taken captive by a gang of armed bandits in October.
In a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau, the Command public relations officer, SP Muhammad Shehu, gave the victim’s name as Mahammadu Sheshi, a native of Enagi in Edati local government area of Niger State.
He said the rescue operation was conducted following the receipt of intelligence report regarding the abduction of Mr Sheshi.
In the course of debriefing, the victim informed the Police that he had been abducted in early October, 2022, by “a large number of armed bandits who blocked Birnin Gwari – Kaduna road and took others into the bush somewhere in Dansadau axis of Zamfara state”.
The man spent two months in captivity, the statement said.
It also disclosed that The victim has since been given medical checks at the Police clinic facility, after which he was reunited with his family.
The state Commissioner of Police, Kolo Yusuf also congratulated Mr Sheshi, assuring the public of the Police Force’s “continuous commitment to protect lives and property of the citizens”.
