The Broomfield Bird Club will host a free bird class on Greater Sage-Grouse: Largest Conservation Effort in U.S. History ~ Ups & Downs,” presented by Daly Edmunds, Director of Policy & Outreach, Audubon Rockies.

“Greater Sage-Grouse are found across 11 western states in North America’s largest but often overlooked ecosystem. This inconspicuous lekking species was once so prevalent that they fed many pioneers during their grueling westward journeys. Today, with a majority of the birds found on public lands, they’ve become a political football,” Edmunds said. “In this presentation, I will discuss the political intrigue that has plagued its management, review the threats to its habitat, and share the latest science. (Spoiler alert: they aren’t doing well!).”
Edmunds is responsible for furthering the Sagebrush Ecosystem Initiative on a regional scale, working with government representatives, conservation organizations and community leaders. She received her master’s in zoology and physiology from the University of Wyoming, on pronghorn research. Prior to joining Audubon in 2009, she worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, National Wildlife Federation and Wyoming Wildlife Federation.
The Broomfield Bird Club is open to anyone in Broomfield and surrounding areas. It is a nonprofit social group formed to welcome the novice and expert in enjoyment, promotion and interest in birds in our area. We try to have at least two walks a month, which are casual, and one live presentation a month of birds presented by the many ornithologists and members who have travelled especially for the purpose of seeking birds and have plenty of pictures to show.
