A man who broke into his ex-wife’s home Friday and held her captive was found dead in the house following a standoff with Decatur police.
Decatur officers responded to a domestic call around 8:15 a.m. Friday at the home in the 3700 block of Neches Court Southwest, police said Friday night.
Officers made contact with the woman, who told police her ex-husband broke into her home and held her against her will before she was able to escape.
The department’s crisis negotiation unit and special operations team were dispatched to the scene, where they made contact with the ex-husband, who barricaded himself inside the home.
The man refused to comply with police demands after hours of negotiations.
Officers later determined a fire was set in the home and the suspect was found dead inside.
Additional details were unavailable as police continued to investigate the incident.
On December 3, 2021, at approximately 8:15 a.m., officers with the Decatur Police Department responded to a home in the 3700-block of Neches Ct. SW in reference to a domestic call.
Officers made contact with the homeowner who stated her ex-husband had broke into the home and held her against her will before she was able to escape.
Decatur PD’s Crisis Negotiation Unit and special operations team were called to the scene to assess the situation and make contact with the suspect after he barricaded himself inside the home. After hours of negotiations, the suspect refused to comply.
It was later discovered a fire had been set in the home and the suspect was found inside deceased.
