The world's oldest panda in captivity, who played a crucial role in saving her species by birthing 36 cubs, has died at the age of 38, as per a TNN report.
Xin Xing was born in 1982 and came to Chongqing Zoo in China at the age of 1 and since then this zoo has been her home.
She has the credit of playing a key part to save her own species with 36 cubs leading to 153 descendants.
The zoo's statement said she passed away on December 8 after multiple organ failure. Earlier she could not breathe properly and did not feel like eating.
Tragic end
"On October 21, 2020, the giant panda Xin Xing was lethargic and unwilling to eat. Difficulty breathing, coughing, and unsteady standing occurred the next day," said the statement.
"The departure of the giant panda Xin Xing makes us feel heartache, and we hereby inform friends from all walks of life who care about Xin Xing," it added.
The zoo said multiple experts conducted anatomical and pathological sections of Xin Xing. The conclusion was that she had digestive dysfunction, hypoproteinemia, and respiratory tract infection which ultimately ended her life.
