Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, November 1. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

The Good Lord Bird (Showtime, 9 p.m.): This morning, a pretty significant chunk of the world’s population got to set their clocks back by an hour, granting them one extra nugget of shut-eye before what’s sure to be a weird-as-hell week. Perhaps take advantage of that well-rested state by catching up on Showtime’s terrific The Good Lord Bird? Here’s Eric Thurm on last week’s episode, which felt a bit like the calm before the storm:

Hopefully... the final few episodes of The Good Lord Bird will lean into the absurdity, futility, and righteousness of the Harpers Ferry raid, and of Brown’s willingness to sacrifice himself more broadly. As we finally start to see, Brown has a pretty specific plan for the raid, including a reliance on local terrain that will prevent the enemy from using their artillery and overwhelming numbers. He has faith in his men, and in Onion to mobilize the local enslaved population. When he lays out the plan, one of the men responds, “You’re talking about a lot of people dying.” And it’s hard not to think of John Brown as being perfectly morally lucid when he responds, “Yes. I am.”

This week, Maya Hawke (name not a coincidence) joins the cast.

Look for Eric’s recap when you’re caught up, which should be pretty soon, right?

Regular coverage

The Undoing (HBO, 9 p.m.)
Fargo (FX, 10 p.m.)
The Walking Dead: World Beyond (AMC, 10:14 p.m.)

Wild cards

The Simpsons, “Treehouse Of Horror XXXI” (Fox, 8 p.m.) and Bob’s Burgers, “Heartbreak Hotel-oween” (Fox, 9 p.m.): It’s that time of year (or it was yesterday, anyway).

On The 12th Day Of Christmas (Hallmark, 8 p.m.): It’s November now, you can’t escape this shit. And this particular Hallmark Christmas movie has a premise that’s both decidedly Hallmarky and a little bit unusual for the network: “Two seemingly incompatible game designers team up to create a romantic, city-wide scavenger hunt themed for the 12 Days of Christmas.”

Desus & Mero (Showtime, 11 p.m., season-two finale) and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (HBO, 11 p.m.): As always, worth your time.
