Summer bird hike at FENCE - The Tryon Daily Bulletin - Tryon Daily Bulletin

Meet at the FENCE Center on Thursday, July 9 at 8:00 a.m. for a summer bird walk led by Ventures International Bird Guide, Aaron Steed.

While the excitement of spring migration is well behind us, there’s much to be enjoyed about a walk in the woods and fields at FENCE in the summer. Many of our birds are still in their ‘breeding season’ – some, such as Goldfinches, will have active nests while others will have young that have long since fledged. There should still be quite a bit of singing going on. We may find parents feeding newly fledged young as well – always an entertaining sight! The Swallows will be mostly finished with nesting by this time and will be getting ready to depart, and we could see some of the growing migratory flocks of Purple Martin, Tree, Barn, Cliff and Rough-winged Swallows before they head south. There’s always the chance for some surprises as well!

Please register for this program in advance as space is limited. Call FENCE at 828-859-9021 or email info@fence.org.

The bird walk is free and open to the public. This event is made possible by the Kirby Endowment at the Polk County Community Foundation. FENCE is located at 3381 Hunting Country Road in Tryon, NC. For more information visit www.fence.org.
