On Tuesday, a day after the official reopening of the Lakefront Trail, Montrose Beach was calm. A few people were camped out on what’s left of the beach, far from the birds. Some bikers and joggers stopped for a moment to read signs about the plovers. There were no volleyballs in sight, just a few barn swallows near the fence and a lot of penny-size toads in the sand.
