Tweet-tweet. The birds are coming.
Before you start having Alfred Hitchcock flashbacks, no, not those birds. We mean the winged, feathered teams in the NFL.
The Dallas Cowboys will face all five teams associated with a bird mascot in the upcoming 2020 season, or what football fans have creatively dubbed, the “Bird Gauntlet.”
Dallas will face the Atlanta Falcons (Week 2), Seattle Seahawks (Week 3), Arizona Cardinals (Week 6), Philadelphia Eagles (Weeks 8 and Week 16) and the Baltimore Ravens (Week 13) in that order.
The Ravens will be a tough matchup, the Seahawks are always formidable at home, and the Falcons, Cardinals and Eagles could all be improved this year.
What are the chances of the Cowboys going undefeated in those six games? Probably slim at best.
Since the Ravens joined the league in 1996, no NFL team has successfully run this gauntlet. However, the precedent set by teams who accomplished the feat prior to that is quite intriguing.
The @dallascowboys will face all 5 bird teams this season
No team has defeated all 5 bird teams in a season (inc. playoffs) since the @Ravens joined the NFL in 96
The last time a Bird Gauntlet was accomplished was the 92 season - @Redskins & Cowboys
The Cowboys won SB XXVII

The last teams to run the gauntlet (before the Ravens inception) were the Cowboys and Washington Redskins, both in the 1992 season.
Dallas won Super Bowl XXVII that year, its third championship.
