SBU, the State Security Service of Ukraine found out that currently, 214 Ukrainians remain in captivity of Russian mercenaries in the occupied Donbas. The authority provided this information, responding to the request of Radio Liberty.
"According to the information account of the United Centre for coordination of search, release of illegally imprisoned persons, hostages and reveaing the whereabouts of those missing in the Joinmt Forces Operation area, as of April 30, 214 people are considered illegally imprisoned", reads the message.
The list of the captives is based on the appeals of their families, messages of NGOs, media reports, as well as on the results of information exchange among the SBU informants involved in respective missions.
In the beginning of the year, the Ukrainian special service reported that the number of illegally imprisoned people made 184 people.
Earlier, we President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported there could be a big prisoner swap in Donbas after the end of the quarantine.
“I understand that during the first exchange we returned 35 people, sailors but it was the first part of the exchange. The second stage was after the agreements in Normandy Format, 76 people. Today, we exchange 20 people. We can expect the end of quarantine to hold the larger swap later,” the president said.
