MARSHALL — Pitcher Mason Penske delivered a dominant peformance on the hill for the Marshall A’s in Sunday’s Corn Belt League matchup against Bird Island that ended in a 3-0 shutout win. With the victory, the A’s improve to 8-11 on the season.
Penske pitched all nine innings for the A’s, racking up a total of eight strikeouts while only allowing four hits and giving up one walk.
The A’s outhit the Bullfrogs 6-4 and were led at the plate by Penske and Zach Olsen who each collected a pair of hits. Olsen also led the way with two RBIs. Zach Olson and Doug Mead also added hits for the A’s in the win.
The A’s will return to Legion Field on Wednesday when the team hosts Hadley for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
Milroy Yankees 7,
Sacred Heart 0
MILROY — The Yankees moved into sole possession of first-place in the Corn Belt League standings on Sunday after shutting out the Sacred Heart Saints at home behind a complete-game gem by Isaac Schmitt.
Schmitt racked up 13 strikeouts in the win while only giving up only two hits in the complete game shutout. Schmitt also went 1-4 at the plate.
Jake Tauer was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two RBIs to match a team-high with David Schmidt. Matt Bauer and Brian Dolan added a pair of hits for Milroy, while Flock and Cody Greve also added hits.
The Milroy Yankees (11-4) will travel to Dawson for their next game against the Drakes on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Granite Falls 4, Wabasso 1
GRANITE FALLS — The Kilowatts of Granite Falls improved to 3-5 in the Corn Belt League standings after notching a home victory over Wabasso on Sunday.
Granite Falls pitcher Bennett Knapper earned the win on the bump after 7.2 innings pitched and giving up only one earned run on one hit with three strike outs. Christian Kanten closed out the game for the Kilowatts, giving up only one hit in 1.1 innings pitched.
Dylan Lindstrom led the Kilowatts at the plate with two runs batted in on one hit. Zac Enevoldson, Brandon Grund and Cole Richter all added hits for Granite Falls in the win.
Taking the loss on the mound for Wabasso was Devan Liebl who pitched all eight innings for the Jaxx. Liebl surrendered three earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
Wabasso outhit the Kilowatts 6-4 as Josh Guetter, Adryen Tietz, Sam Guetter, Liebl Caleb Kemp and Colton Taylor all contributed hits in the loss.
Granite Falls will return to its home field on July 7 when the team takes on the Marshall A’s at 6:30. Wabasso will be back in action next Friday when the Jaxx return home to take on Raymond at 7:30 p.m.
Milroy Irish 7,
Heron Lake 2
The Irish continued their impressive run this season with a pair of victories over the weekend to improve to 18-3 overall and 14-1 in league play.
Josh Baker got the start in Friday’s game against Heron Lake and earned a hard-fought win after going 5.2 innings on the mound and racking up nine strikeouts while only surrendering two runs on six hits.
At the plate, the Irish were led by Ben Heichel who went 2-3 with a two-run home run. Dominic Dolan and Derek Riley each added a pair of hits.

Tracy 0 (5 innings)
Irish pitcher Beau Priegnitz got the start in Saturday’s game against the Engineers and powered Milroy to a shutout win after a four inning outing featuring four strikeouts. Jack Bly pitched the final inning for the Irish and recorded one strikeout.
Ben Heichel once again led the Irish at the plate going 4-4 with a double.
Milroy is set to host the Tempe Banditos in their next game on Wednesday at Irish Yard.
