It was widescale chaos.
Thousands of people in South Dakota were left in the dark when a bird dropped a snake into an electrical substation, according to NorthWestern Energy.
“More than 3,300 NorthWestern customers in Aberdeen, S.D. lost power for an hour Wednesday when a bird dropped a 3-foot-long garter snake into a substation,” the company wrote in a Facebook post. “Crews responded and were able to restore service quickly.”
The rugged reptile somehow survived the fall, but didn’t escape unscathed.
“The snake lived through the ordeal, however it was injured,” the company wrote, along with a photo of the critter.
Its ultimate fate wasn’t immediately known.
Earlier this year, hundreds of households in Scotland lost power after bull with an “itchy bum” rubbed up against an electrical pole, knocking down a transformer.
And in 2017, residents of Prince Albert, Canada were taken offline when a beaver gnawed through a pole, weakening it enough for strong winds to ultimately bring it down.
