Volodymyr Labuzov was captured in May 2022 when the Ukrainian port of Mariupol fell to Russian forces after weeks of fighting. Labuzov, a military doctor who had been working in a makeshift hospital inside the Azovstal steel plant, was one of 2,500 prisoners taken by the Russians. Released in a prisoner swap after seven months, he recalls that the Ukrainian captives were treated "brutally."
