It was just a matter of time.

During the second quarter, Manning was shown on the jumbotron screen inside the stadium, and as you would expect, Eagles fans gave Manning a warm Philadelphia welcome.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo: Eli Manning showered with boos and double birds as they show him inter-spliced with former #Eagles in attendance.

New York Daily News’ Pat Leonard: They just showed Eli Manning on the Jumbotron & the entire stadium is booing. Then they showed former Eagles Malcolm Jenkins and Brent Celek & they cheered. Then they showed Eli again. They booed as Eli raised his arms and pumped his fists. Then they showed Torrey Smith. Cheers

Newsday’s Neil Best: Eli Manning shown on scoreboard sitting next to his young daughter. Thousands of birds fans flip him the bird.

FOX Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano: The Eagles just showed @EliManning on the scoreboard here at The Linc twice. The reaction was exactly what you think it would be.

SNY’s Connor Hughes: Pretty funny situation here. The #Eagles are going back & forth between showing Eli Manning, then past Eagles legends. Entertaining to hear the crowd go from booing & throwing out double birds, to then cheering, to then booing again.

Before the game, Manning turned to Twitter to acknowledge a billboard welcoming the two-time Super Bowl MVP to Philadelphia.

The sign read, “Welcome back to Philly, Eli. We (double bird) salute you!”

Manning tweeted, “This is the nicest thing you have ever said to me.”

Back in Week 3 of the 2021 season, during the Dallas Cowboys41-21 beatdown of the Eagles, Manning reminisced about his days playing against Philadelphia during ESPN’s alternate broadcast of Monday Night Football with his brother, Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. And in doing so, Eli Manning flipped off America.

“You’re getting the double bird right in your face from a nine-year-old kid. I would give the bird, I don’t know, can we do that? Can you ... I’m sure you can blur that out, right? Getting the double bird by a nine-year-old and they’re saying things about my mom and Peyton and I can’t tell you what they said about mom. You do not want to know.”

That brings us to Monday night’s edition of the “ManningCast” when the Cowboys visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their NFC Wild Card Game. Per Awful Announcing:

“I said when I retired I’d never go back to a game at Philly,” Manning said on last night’s ESPN Manning Cast with his brother Peyton. “But I think I have to break that promise. I can’t wait to see the amount of double birds I get. Could break a record.”

Sounds like the record was broken.
